Job summary

Backcountry is seeking a Head of Stores to lead and grow a high-performing retail organization across its stores and Backcountry Outlet. The role demands end-to-end ownership, strategic leadership, and a customer-obsessed culture to drive profitable expansion, rentals, and services.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive multi-unit retail leadership experience.
• Proven ability to drive sales, profitability, and customer-obsessed culture.
• Experience leading rentals/services and fleet management is a plus.
• Strong financial acumen with P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and labor.
• Ability to implement scalable operating practices and change management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing field organization across Backcountry stores.
• Drive sales, profitability, and sustainable growth with disciplined execution.
• Grow the business by expanding rentals, services, memberships, and revenue.
• Foster a customer-obsessed culture delivering exceptional service.
• Oversee equipment rental operations, fleet, safety, and compliance.
• Recruit, develop, and retain top talent with accountability and collaboration.
• Set clear performance expectations with KPIs and reporting.
• Partner with Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, HR, Real Estate and Ops.
• Champion AI, analytics, and tech to improve productivity and decisions.
• Develop and improve operating procedures for a scalable org.
