Job Summary

A high-impact, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the healthcare services and mental health sector is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to join its executive leadership team in Ontario, CA. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a strategic operations leader who excels at turning vision into disciplined execution, scalable systems, and measurable organizational performance. The Chief Operating Officer will serve as the principal operational partner to the CEO, leading enterprise operations across programs and sites while strengthening accountability, compliance, and service delivery. Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CEO to translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans, priorities, and execution rhythms.
  • Lead, coach, and develop senior operational leaders across programs, departments, and service locations.
  • Build scalable systems, workflows, and processes that improve program quality, consistency, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Oversee federally funded programs, including compliance, reporting integrity, audit readiness, and cooperative agreement requirements.
  • Develop and monitor enterprise KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to support transparency and data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify operational risks, process gaps, and improvement opportunities while driving cross-functional alignment and disciplined execution.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $250,000 to $300,000 per year.
  • Job type: Direct hire.
  • Location: Ontario, CA.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Lead enterprise operations across multi-program or multi-site healthcare, nonprofit, or service-based environments.
  • Manage federally funded program operations, compliance requirements, reporting processes, and audit readiness.
  • Design and implement scalable workflows, operating rhythms, dashboards, and performance management systems.
  • Partner with executive leadership to convert organizational strategy into measurable operational outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 6 to 10 years of relevant executive-level operations leadership experience.
  • Proven experience managing federally funded programs, grants, cooperative agreements, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Strong background leading complex operations across multiple programs, departments, or locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, improve, and manage organizational workflows, KPIs, and performance metrics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and change management skills.
  • Ability to lead through influence, build accountability, and align teams around mission, quality, and execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in nonprofit healthcare, behavioral health, mental health, or community-based services.
  • Background working with mission-driven organizations that serve complex community needs.
  • Experience scaling operations during organizational growth, transformation, or program expansion.
