Job summary

Virginia Department of Education is seeking an Executive Director of Comprehensive Student Supports in Richmond to lead the Office of Behavioral Health and Student Safety within the Division of Special Education and Specialized Populations.

The role oversees MTSS, school counseling and psychology, and school health services, while driving safe and welcoming school environments through climate and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated organizational leadership to unite a multi-function team and communicate a shared vision.
• Experience designing and leading complex, multi-functional student support organizations.
• Experience overseeing programs in a school division or nonprofit.
• Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
• Experience in school counseling or school psychology; leadership experience preferred.
• Experience managing grants that support leadership and positive change.
• Experience producing executive briefing documents and formal materials.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of an evidence-based framework that unifies student support functions across the office.
• Manage federal and state grant programs funding student wellness and MTSS.
• Advance school-based mental health services and the continuum of care for students.
• Lead efforts to improve school climate, bullying prevention, safety, and discipline policy.
• Address chronic absenteeism and supports for vulnerable student populations.
• Collaborate across divisions to ensure LEAs have access to resources and strategies based on data.
