Job summary

North Central College seeks a Senior Director of Housing and Residential Education to lead residential education, housing operations, and student conduct with a focus on belonging and learning.

The role reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Life, collaborates across campus, manages budgets, supervises staff, and advances strategic priorities to support retention and student success in a residential liberal arts environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum seven years of professional experience in housing, residential education, or student affairs administration within higher education.
• Eight years of progressively responsible experience is preferred.
• Supervise professional staff, lead residential operations, manage budgets, administer student conduct processes, and use student information systems.
• Experience with housing management systems and case management platforms, including ErezLife and Maxient, is strongly preferred.
• Experience serving on behavioral intervention teams, crisis response, and using assessment practices to inform decisions is strongly preferred.
• Experience at a residential liberal arts institution with a substantial residential population is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for Housing and Residential Education, including residential education, occupancy management, student engagement, leadership development, crisis response, and community development initiatives.
• Develop and implement a residential experience model grounded in student development theory, belonging, learning outcomes, assessment, and student support.
• Provide direct supervision and leadership for the Assistant Director for Residential Experience, Housing Coordinator, Residence Hall Directors, graduate assistants, and other staff.
• Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of staff.
• Provide oversight for housing operations, occupancy management, room assignments, residential transitions, break housing, and summer housing operations.
• Direct and participate in short- and long-range planning, including budget development and management, assessment, and initiatives.
• Collaborate with Enrollment Management and campus partners to support recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives.
• Provide leadership for residential conduct processes and restorative approaches.
• Adjudicate residential conduct matters and selected non-residential and off-campus conduct cases.
• Review and resolve student conduct appeals with relevant administrators.
• Partner with Assistant Deans on complex student cases and policy implementation.
• Train and support staff serving as conduct officers and promote restorative approaches.
• Serve as co-chair of the CARE Team and contribute to case consultation and interventions.
• Participate in crisis management and emergency response.
• Represent Housing and Residential Education and Student Life at orientation and admissions events.
• Assist with crime statistics, Clery reporting, and risk management initiatives.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets and align resources with enrollment and divisional priorities.
• Foster a culture of learning, belonging, collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
