Ideal candidate will have Missouri RN licensure, 3+ years in high-level nursing management within psychiatry, and a preferred Master’s in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Strong staffing, budgeting, and strategic leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Missouri RN license required.
  • 3+ years of high-level nursing management experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting.
  • Master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing preferred; BSN with ongoing graduate studies may be considered.
  • Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, planning, analysis and coordination of the Nursing Department.
  • Serve as an integral executive team member for strategic nursing initiatives, staffing, fiscal accountability and policy oversight.
  • Monitor nursing department standards, policies and procedures; ensure accreditation from TJC and CMS/DHSS.
  • Develop and oversee staffing plans, acuity systems and budgets, including overtime and PRN/agency nursing.

Job Location: This position will be located at 1010 West Columbia Street Farmington, MO 63640

Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center, a 348 bed, Medicare Certified (CMS) and Joint Commission Accredited (TJC) Forensic Psychiatric Facility operated by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Behavioral Health, provides inpatient psychiatric treatment to individuals adjudicated as Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Disease or Defect or Permanently Incompetent to Stand Trial.

The successful candidate for this position will provide leadership, direction, planning, analysis and coordination of the Nursing Department. As an integral executive team member, the CNE will be responsible for strategic nursing initiatives, department staffing, fiscal accountability, and monitoring of nursing department standards, policies and procedures, and must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Working with hospital and nursing leadership to secure accreditation from TJC and certification from CMS/DHSS
  • Performance Improvement methodologies (preference will be given to those familiar with CQI Plus and Lean)
  • The development and management of nursing schedules, acuity systems, and nursing budgets (including overtime and PRN/agency nurses)
  • Effective strategies for the recruitment and retention of professional nurses and para-professional nursing technicians
  • Evidence Based Practice in the treatment and rehabilitation of clinical populations with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) as well as Intellectual Disabilities

The ideal candidate will possess personal and professional commitment to the treatment of individuals with an SPMI, including values consistent with Trauma Informed Care, Recovery Based Practice, Advocacy and Stigma-Reduction, Client Choice and Empowerment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Missouri
  • 3 or more years of high level nursing management experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree or doctoral preparation in psychiatric and mental health nursing is preferred
  • Candidates with a BSN who are in the process of or willing to promptly pursue a graduate degree in a psychiatric/mental health specialty may be considered.
