MGT Insurance, a fast-growing AI-native P&C carrier, seeks a Head of Legal to build and lead the legal function. You will advise the CEO and board, own regulatory compliance across states, and negotiate strategic agreements. This role combines hands-on legal work with setting governance for a high-growth insurer.

Reporting to the Co-CEO, you will shape policy, licensing, and corporate structure while supporting product, underwriting, and partnerships in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

Qualifikationen

• J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
• 10+ years of legal experience with significant exposure to P&C insurance preferred.
• Track record advising executive teams and boards on legal risk and strategic decisions.
• Experience managing outside counsel relationships across multiple practice areas.
• Comfortable operating a build-from-scratch legal function establishing process and governance rather than inheriting an established department.

Aufgaben

• Serve as MGT's senior-most legal advisor; counsel the CEO, executive team, and board on legal risk, regulatory strategy, and major business decisions.
• Own MGT's regulatory compliance program: state insurance department relationships, licensing, market conduct, rate and form filings, and multi-state compliance requirements.
• Advise on litigation strategies and review external counsels’ recommendations as needed.
• Structure and negotiate legal agreements supporting corporate development activity such as partnerships, reinsurance contracts, carrier agreements, MGA arrangements, and M&A transactions.
• Manage outside counsel relationships across litigation, regulatory, and transactional matters while controlling cost and quality.
• Support the buildout of MGT's corporate governance infrastructure, including records, entity management, and policies for a regulated carrier.
• Advise Product and Underwriting on legal and regulatory implications of new products, states, and appetite expansions before launch.
• Own contract review and management including vendor agreements, technology contracts, and data/privacy agreements.
• Build and lead a small AI-enabled legal/compliance team as the company scales.
