West Coast Time Zone – Remote with Travel

Our client, a rapidly growing private equity–backed education services provider, is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will be responsible for leading the company’s financial strategy, scaling operational infrastructure, and serving as a key partner to the CEO and private equity sponsors. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in multi-site or distributed service models, with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance, revenue cycle management, and value creation in an education-focused environment.

Candidates must reside in the West Coast time zone. This is a remote role with regular travel to company headquarters and educational centers across the country.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the executive team, shaping and executing growth strategies across traditional and online learning platforms, new market expansion, and M&A.
  • Work directly with private equity sponsors to define and track value creation initiatives tied to operational efficiency, pricing models, and student retention.
  • Lead all financial planning activities and present regularly to the Board and stakeholders.
  • Direct the budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning process across all education centers, programs, and delivery models.
  • Develop key performance metrics related to student acquisition cost, cohort profitability, retention, and utilization.
  • Provide strategic insights to academic operations, enrollment, and marketing teams to guide investments and resource allocation.

Accounting & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting functions including GAAP compliance, financial reporting, audit coordination, and regulatory filings.
  • Build and scale systems to support multi-site education operations, scholarship/grant funding, and tuition collection.
  • Implement financial controls and best practices that align with both operational and regulatory requirements.

Capital Management

  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure planning to ensure adequate support for program growth and facility expansion.
  • Maintain relationships with lenders, banks, and financial partners; ensure covenant compliance and financial transparency.
  • Oversee tuition financing strategies, grant administration, and related financial aid models.

M&A and Integration

  • Lead financial due diligence, valuation modeling, and post-acquisition integration of new campuses or educational platforms.
  • Standardize financial systems and processes across acquired institutions or services.
  • Support rapid onboarding of new locations or programs into the organizational and financial framework.

Team Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team aligned with the needs of a high-growth, service-focused environment.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and business partnership throughout the organization.
  • Enhance team capabilities and succession planning across finance leadership roles.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership, including experience as CFO or VP of Finance in an education services, multi-site services, or mission-driven organization.
  • Track record of success in private equity–backed settings, with board-facing responsibilities and a focus on value creation.
  • Strong understanding of tuition revenue models, financial aid structures, education compliance requirements, and student lifecycle economics.
  • Experience leading financial transformations, ERP system upgrades, and M&A activity.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with a hands-on approach to solving problems and executing strategy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Must be based in the West Coast time zone; role is remote with required travel to corporate and campus locations.

Compensation

A competitive base salary, performance-based bonus, and meaningful equity participation, aligned with the company’s growth objectives and private equity ownership expectations.
