Job summary

Orbis Operations LLC is hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead our fast-growing engineering organization. You will direct directors and managers, hire and develop top technical talent, and shape a culture that enables engineers to do their best work as the company scales.

You will report to the CTO and own the operating model that turns a technical vision into reliable delivery at scale, while coordinating with executives, government customers, and partners across time zones.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience including 5+ years leading engineering organizations
• Experience at small/early-stage company with limited process
• Proven people leader; develops managers and high-performing teams
• Proven scaling experience; builds hiring pipelines
• Excellent written and verbal communication with executives
• Experience leading a fully remote org across multiple time zones
• Hands-on background in cloud-native delivery, CI/CD, and DevSecOps; production in Rust/Go/TypeScript and AWS/GCP/Cloudflare
• BS in CS or related field, or equivalent
• Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance
• Willingness to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop engineering leadership; own the leadership bench
• Shape workforce plan, hiring strategy, and interview process
• Define working norms, career paths, recognition, and feedback loops
• Communicate direction and context to the entire engineering org
• Own delivery and accountability; balance roadmap, tech debt, architecture
• Consolidate platforms; rationalize toolchain across Rust, Go, TS and cloud environments
• Ensure security and quality per government standards
• Lead a remote team across time zones with asynchronous communication
• Partner with CTO, Product, Security, People, and IT on budgeting and planning
• Travel up to 25% to HQ and customer sites
