Job summary

Oshkosh AeroTech seeks a Chief Engineer (NPD Defense) to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in defense product development and legacy support. You will drive system integration across mechanical, thermal, and power domains while maintaining MIL‑SPEC compliance and strong design integrity.

You will mentor engineers, influence product direction, and collaborate with product management to align technical strategy with business goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; 10+ years of related experience.
• Experience working in both new product development and sustaining engineering environments.
• Cross‑functional collaboration with controls, electrical, and software engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an engineering team of engineers, designers, and technicians, scaling as needed.
• Provide technical leadership and people leadership, balancing system‑level guidance with team development.
• Collaborate on engineering strategy across defense‑focused product lines including new product development and legacy support.
• Drive development of defense products while transitioning from low‑volume legacy programs.
• Establish strong mechanical engineering practices, focusing on form, fit, function, and design integrity.
• Guide system‑level design across mechanical, thermal, and power systems with MIL‑SPEC compliance in mind.
• Partner with electrical, controls, and software engineers for full system integration.
• Mentor across the engineering organization and interface with customers and suppliers.
