The City of Lauderhill seeks a Chief Electrical Inspector responsible for supervising inspections of electrical installations ensuring compliance with the National Electric Code and Florida building regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical code enforcement, possess necessary certifications, and demonstrate strong leadership in a technical environment.
The purpose of this position is to perform supervisory work of technical personnel involved in a wide variety of electrical installations and alterations for compliance with the National Electric Code and Florida Building Code, under the general direction of the Chief Building Official. Employees in this classification are responsible for technical enforcement of work and inspections performed of new and existing electrical installations and systems to determine and secure compliance with applicable codes. The position is responsible for the technical examination and the application of standard trade practices to electrical inspections. The Chief Electrical Inspector analyzes current and proposed plans and specifications for the purpose of ensuring compliance to Federal, State, and Local codes and guidelines. Coordinates and supervises the workload and projects for electrical inspectors; directs and supervises duties of assigned staff; reviews job performance, evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate.
Inspects residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings during and after construction to ensure that electrical components meet provisions of building, electrical and safety laws and approved plans, specifications and standards as required for the promotion of consumer/public safety and welfare.
Reviews building codes in order to keep abreast of any changes in regulations; refers to code books to interpret code requirements and recommend compliance procedures to engineers, contractors, craft workers, architects and owners.
Reviews electrical activities that require inspections and permits.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals in the operations of the department including engineering and fire department personnel; architects; home and business owners; contractors; engineers; and the general public in order to explain and interpret codes and regulations regarding the electrical components of buildings.
Works with other City Departments for special projects needs and coordination.
Instructs engineers, contractors, etc., in the proper installation of or use of electrical supplies or equipment to comply with codes.
Observes conditions and ensures that notices are issued for corrections to persons responsible for conformance. Requests and reviews reports concerning violations which have not been corrected.
Maintains licenses by getting continuing education; keeps updated on all codes and ordinances that are in effect.
Attends safety and departmental communication meetings and city policy training.
Reviews residential and commercial plans.
Makes recommendations for the appropriate fees for electrical permits resulting in significant revenue to the generalfund.
Interprets and makes recommendations for changes in legal provisions governing electrical installations.
Exercises considerable independent judgment; seeks guidance from Chief Building Official with unusual or highly difficult technical and enforcement problems, who also reviews periodic inspections reports and work when necessary.
Enforces and investigates work involving the enforcement of all building, minimum housing, and other City codes.
Plans, organizes, and supervises the work and training of subordinate inspectors.
Establishes policies, practices, and procedures of the electrical division;, ensures that they are implemented to the approval of the Building Official.
Supervises the investigation and conducts on-site investigations of complaints, regarding violation of the electrical code, applicable ordinances, City code and coordinates the prosecution of violators.
Performs second inspections and reports violations, and assists in representing the City at court hearings.
Prepares and submits periodic activity reports of electrical inspections and investigations.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with City employees, elected officials, the press, the general public, industry professionals, and other government agencies.
Supervises the review and approval of plans and specifications for compliance with electrical requirements.
Performs office functions such as answering phones, copying, filing, and faxing.
Performs related duties as directed.Minimum Qualifications
