Leech Lake Band Of Ojibwe seeks a Dispatch Center Supervisor to direct the LLBO Tribal Police Communications Center. The role manages six dispatchers, ensures 24/7 coverage, screens emergency calls, and uses the CAD system to dispatch police, fire, medical, and other units.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work with federal/state networks while maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.
License/Certification Requirements: First aid, CPR, and CJIS training. Must have a valid MN driver’s license, current insurance or be insurable.
Summary: Manage and direct supervision of dispatchers in the LLBO Tribal Police Communications Center.
Education Requirements and Experience:
Twenty-one years of age.
High School graduate, one year of public safety dispatch experiences a plus.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge of geographic features and streets with the area served.
Knowledge of modern office procedures, practices and use of equipment
Excellent organizational skills
Good oral and written communication and customer service skills.
Radio communications and emergency medical dispatch training
Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar a must.
Ability to make good judgment and decisions in emergency situations
Ability to effectively communicate with and illicit information from upset and/or irate citizens.
Type accurately at a rate of 40 wpm
Ability to operate dispatch (Federal and State) network
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Supervisory Duties:
Responsible for ensuring assigned staff utilizes the electronic timekeeping system.
Responsible for the approval of work hours, necessary adjustments and documenting reasons for adjustments in the electronic timekeeping system for all assigned staff.
Supervise, train, evaluate and provide general guidance to Dispatchers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Directly supervise six (6) dispatchers, scheduling work hours for maintaining daily service 24 hrs, 7 days per week.
Maintain employee personnel files, including hiring, terminating, evaluating, promoting, and training.
Receives and screens incoming calls for law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services.
Questions callers to determine location and seriousness of emergency and response needed.
Enters information into computer-aided dispatch system.
Operates communication equipment to dispatch police, fire, medial, and other personnel and equipment and to relay instructions or information to remote units.
Transmits and receives messages between divisions of Leech Lake Tribal Police and other law enforcement agencies.
Work with Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehensions and the Federal Bureau of Investigations on the Network used for maintaining secure Law Enforcement files.
Contacts police officers to verify assignment locations, monitors dispatched units and, when necessary, serves as liaison with caller.
Receive emergency calls from the public requesting police or other emergency service.
Determine nature and location of emergency, determine priority and dispatch emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.
Route messages to appropriate personnel.
Monitor other county radio traffic.
Write initial complaint reports.
Track LLDPS officers, building security, animal control officer, and other DPS personnel on duty.
Dispatch officers, security officers and animal control officers to assist when needed.
Maintain log of LL Conservation officers on duty.
Submit weekly LL Conservation report.
Maintain log of LL GSA vehicles on the road outside regular business hours.
Perform routine state inquiries (driver’s license checks, vehicle registration and adoption licensing.)
Enter, update and retrieve information from State and Federal networks relating to wanted person, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information.
Perform criminal background history checks for social services (foster care and adoption licensing) and early childhood (childcare) providers.
Coordinate calls for service with counties (Cass, Beltrami, Itasca and Hubbard) when necessary.
Fax ICR’s and reports as needed to surrounding counties.
Maintain current reservation housing/community maps.
Maintain and update dispatch phone book (resource and referral).
Maintain active OFP and HRO card file.
Provide Leech Lake Vehicle registration information to other law enforcement agencies, when needed.
Maintain Citations log (for all citations and written warnings issued).
Compile research material for officers, and animal control officer and sergeant.
Enter old shift reports onto computer.
Update county officer roster as needed.
Maintain accurate list of calls for service.
Talk with persons in need of assistance who come to the office.
Network with other counties on communications issues/training issues.
Dispatch and maintain training equipment and inventory. Test and inspect equipment as required.
Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Ability to travel in and out of the state on a possibly regular basis.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
