The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Health Division 1 / Red Cedar Assisted Living Center is seeking a Public Health Nursing supervisor to provide leadership for MCH, C&TC, CHR, HHC, clinic staff and nurses on the Leech Lake Reservation.

The role requires Minnesota RN licensure, a minimum of two years supervisory experience, and strong management, communication and culturally aware patient care. Travel to satellite clinics and compliance with LLBO policies are essential.

Health Division 1 / Red Cedar Assisted Living (RCAL) Center

License/Certification Requirements:

Must have a valid Minnesota State driver’s license, current insurance or be insurable. Licensure as a Registered Nurse is a requirement.

Summary:

Provides Public Health Nursing (PHN) services to Native American patients on the Leech Lake Reservation. Monitors compliance of applicable laws and regulations and maintain standards of care, which are outlined by the state of Minnesota nursing board. Provides management, direction, and supervision of Maternal Child Health Nursing (MCH), Child & Teen Checkup (C&TC), Community Health Representative (CHR), Home Health Care (HHC), Clinic staff & Nurses, and Special Diabetes.

Education Requirements and Experience:

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Public Health setting is preferred.
  • Supervisor training or willing to attend courses offered by Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe (LLBO).

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent time management, organization, conflict resolution, communication, public relations and speaking skills
  • Good attendance and punctuality is a must
  • Excellent office management and computer skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to travel in and out as needed
  • Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture
  • Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions

Supervisory Duties:

  • Will provide supervision to all programs listed under the DON as stated in the Summary Section
  • Schedule nurses for duty at satellite clinics
  • Assign referrals to homecare nurses for home visits
  • Assign receptionists where they are needed for open clinics
  • Make sure delivery of medications to clinics and labs to hospital are done in a timely manner by courier
  • Instructs nurses in medical advice as it relates to nursing and gives direction to resources
  • Review and sign mileage forms to present to the Health Director for final review and approval
  • Makes sure all charting is done in a timely manner including nursing notes and plan of treatments
  • Communicate and support all of the nursing staff
  • Follow and enforce discipline according to GAPP policies
  • Enthusiastically represent and promote recruitment and retention efforts where possible, including student mentorship or internship
  • This position requires keeping appropriate caseload of clients
  • Oversee HIPAA certification and ensure that privacy rules governing nurse-client privileges are maintained
  • Ensure all documents for employee’s and their staff are up to date and yearly reviews occur on time
  • Submit monthly and quarterly reports of all program activities to the Health Director / Administrative Manager

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Establishes routine work schedule and approves leave requests to assure availability
  • Completes budget management and monitoring of the community health services component to assure that program goals and objectives are met within the contract budget restrictions
  • Responsible for collection, review for accuracy and transmission of all community health services activity reports
  • Must be willing to work collaboratively with Federal, State, and local health agencies
  • Work closely with the Health Director and Administrative Manager for a cohesive and productive division
  • Conduct monthly and/or semi-monthly meetings with Nursing staff at each site to ensure clear communication that program goals are being met and Nursing staff have the resources needed to complete daily duties
  • Increase revenue and locate additional avenues for revenue increase; provide additional resources or ideas to the grant writer
  • Travel in and out of state on occasion as needed
  • Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture
  • Adhere to policies governing staff conduct
  • All other related duties as assigned
  • Attend and/or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times
  • Adhere to policies governing staff conduct through the LLBO GAPP
