Job summary

WV Department of Human Services seeks a Commissioner for the Bureau for Family Assistance, providing strategic direction and oversight of programs like SNAP, TANF, child care, and energy assistance across West Virginia.

The role requires extensive executive leadership, sharp financial acumen, and strong communication with lawmakers and stakeholders to advance family stability and economic self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public administration (MPA), social work (MSW), business administration (MBA), or a closely related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive executive-level management experience within a complex human services delivery system.

Responsibilities

• Legislative testimony and policy advocacy: represent the Bureau before legislative committees and report on program outcomes.
• Public speaking & community relations: deliver addresses and updates to community providers and stakeholders.
• Executive leadership & operations: oversee SNAP, WV WORKS/TANF, child care, LIEAP, Medicaid, Summer EBT, and related programs; mentor deputies.
• Fiscal & budget management: oversee a complex budget with state and federal funding; ensure regulatory compliance and impact.
