Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA), seeks a Commissioner to provide strategic leadership and oversight of SNAP, WV WORKS/TANF, child care, and energy assistance. The role directs executive staff, mentors deputy commissioners, and collaborates with lawmakers to advance family stability across the state.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public administration, social work, business admin, or closely related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive executive-level management experience in complex human services delivery.
• Strong ability to engage lawmakers, stakeholders, and communities.

Responsibilities

• Legislative & Policy Engagement: represent the Bureau before committees and advise on policy.
• Public Speaking & Community Relations: deliver updates to community providers and stakeholders.
• Executive Leadership & Operations: oversee safety-net programs and staffing, advocate for burnout reduction.
• Fiscal & Budget Management: oversee complex state budgets and federal grants.
