Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) invites applications for the Commissioner of the Bureau for Family Assistance. This executive role provides strategic direction and operational management for SNAP, WV WORKS, child care resources, and energy assistance, serving vulnerable citizens across the state.

The position requires legislative engagement, strong public communication, and advanced financial acumen to steward a multi-million dollar budget and complex federal grants.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in public administration, social work, MBA, or a related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive executive-level management experience in complex human services.
• Experience with public assistance programs and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead legislative testimony and statutory compliance activities to improve service delivery.
• Direct executive staff in managing core safety-net programs such as SNAP and TANF.
• Engage with lawmakers and community stakeholders as the department's public voice.
• Oversee budget management, grant administration, and fiscal planning.
