Job summary

Personnel Board of Jefferson County in Jefferson County, AL, is seeking a Chief Building Official to lead the Building Division, manage permit coordination, plan reviews and inspections for land development, and enforce state and county codes.

The role requires ICC Certified Building Official, a valid driver's license, and experience with residential and commercial inspections. You will supervise staff and prepare records for court cases, ensuring compliance and safety.

Qualifications

Driver's license.
Certified Building Official certification from the ICC.
Experience conducting building inspections for residential and commercial buildings.

Responsibilities

Serves as the County’s Building Official.
Serves as the County’s Fire Code Official.
Acts as the primary signatory for Certificates of Occupancy (COs) issued by Jefferson County.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development and knowledge of codes, rules, and guidelines.
Interprets codes and ordinances to clarify information for construction professionals and the public.
Oversees enforcement of codes and ordinances by conducting inspections and communicating required modifications.
Oversees plan reviews to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
Maintains inspection records and prepares for court cases with accurate fees.
Performs administrative duties including writing reports and responding to concerns.
Researches codes and permitting to ensure knowledge is current.
Supervises staff by assigning work and providing training.
