Job summary

Merck & Co. in Rahway, NJ, seeks an Executive Director to lead Transformation Enablement & AI Adoption within Global Clinical Development. You will partner across ESO, GCD, and R&D IT to accelerate adoption, scale initiatives, and realize value from clinical transformation programs.

Lead GCTO AI/Automation Hub and establish governance for AI opportunities, measuring adoption, value realization, and change outcomes across global teams. Hybrid work arrangement and competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 15+ years in the pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences industry and 10+ years of leadership experience.
Advanced degree with 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare or life sciences industry, including at least 8 years in leadership.
Experience leading enterprise-scale business transformation initiatives.
Experience creating AI-enabled solutions and governance models.

Responsibilities

Establish and sustain the GCD AI Community of Practice as the primary mechanism for knowledge sharing, capability building, innovation scaling, and organizational learning across GCD.
Develop and maintain forums to share use cases, lessons learned, reusable assets, prompts, agents, and best practices.
Drive collaboration among Lighthouse initiative leaders, Imagineers, R&D IT, and AI practitioners within BARDS, VI, Therapeutic Areas, and other functions.
Ensure transformation initiatives focus on measurable improvements in quality, speed, productivity, portfolio execution, and patient impact.
Sponsor business adoption strategies that accelerate value realization and sustainable behavior change.
Establish an integrated intake, prioritization, and governance model for GCTO AI and automation opportunities, with clear ownership, stakeholder engagement, compliance review, value measurement, and adoption planning.
Drive delivery discipline across the Hub portfolio, including roadmap management, resourcing, risk management, adoption metrics, value realization, and ongoing optimization of deployed AI and automation solutions.
Support workforce readiness and responsible AI practices across GCTO by enabling education, hands-on experimentation, use case sharing, and consistent adoption of approved tools, agents, and automation capabilities.
