Job summary

STRS Ohio is seeking a Chief Actuary to lead actuarial and enterprise risk management within the Finance/Management team. The role focuses on directing annual pension valuations, collaborating with external actuaries, and delivering strategic analyses to executive leadership.

Ideal candidates hold a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, 6–10 years of actuarial experience, and expertise with Proval. The position is on-site in Columbus and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance or business administration required.
• Certification as Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries required.
• Six to ten years’ experience as an actuary in consulting or pension-related organization required.
• Experience with pension actuarial software such as Proval preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation of data for annual independent actuarial valuations for pension and health care benefits.
• Work closely with consulting actuary for completion, review and presentation of annual valuations and other analysis prepared for pension and health care benefits.
• Prepare and present actuarial reports and analysis to management, stakeholders and STRS Ohio Board meetings as a trusted advisor in policy decisions.
• Lead development and recommend long-term funding strategies for pension and health care plans, incorporating actuarial best practices.
• Lead STRS Ohio's Enterprise Risk Management framework, integrating actuarial, financial, investment, operational and strategic risks.
