As they continue to grow and expand our services, they are looking for a strategic and highly experienced Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to join the Executive team. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the highest standards of accounting, compliance, and reporting across their senior living business.
Position Overview:
The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) will be responsible for the leadership and management of the accounting function within the company, with a focus on accurate financial reporting, compliance, and driving efficiencies across financial operations. The CAO will be a strategic partner to the Executive team and will be instrumental in guiding the financial direction of the company, supporting our continued growth and success in the senior living industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the overall accounting and financial reporting functions for the organization, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Oversee financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Develop and implement effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls specific to the senior living industry.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to senior leadership, helping to inform strategic decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, legal, and HR) to ensure financial data is aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Stay current on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes that impact senior living companies, ensuring the organization’s compliance with GAAP and other relevant guidelines.
- Lead audits and manage relationships with external auditors, ensuring smooth and timely completion of audits.
- Mentor, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with executive leadership in business planning and strategy development, contributing to the long-term financial health of the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the senior living, healthcare, or related industries.
- In-depth understanding of the senior living industry, including financial reporting and accounting nuances unique to the sector.
- Proven experience in managing a large-scale accounting team and driving improvements in accounting processes and systems.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP, ASC 842, revenue recognition) and regulatory compliance expertise.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven track record of leading successful audits and working with external auditors.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
