The Corporate Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a multi-facility skilled nursing and healthcare organization. This role oversees general accounting functions, financial reconciliations, month-end close processes, audits, and regulatory financial reporting while ensuring compliance with healthcare accounting standards, internal controls, and federal and state regulations.
This position requires strong healthcare accounting experience, preferably within skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, or multi-site healthcare operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced corporate healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for multiple facilities and entities.
- Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts including cash, payroll, benefits, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany accounts, and liabilities.
- Partner with Payroll and Human Resources on payroll accounting, labor allocations, PTO accruals, payroll tax reconciliations, garnishments, and benefits accounting.
- Assist with annual audits, 401(k) audits, and Form 5500 support documentation.
- Support cost reporting and reimbursement processes related to skilled nursing and healthcare operations.
- Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual financial reports and assist leadership with financial forecasting.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with GAAP, healthcare accounting standards, Medicare/Medicaid financial requirements, and internal company controls.
- Assist with banking transactions, account reconciliations, cash management, and treasury support.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records.
- Review and analyze facility financial trends, labor costs, agency usage, and operational expenses.
- Assist with implementation and optimization of financial systems, payroll systems, and ERP/HRIS integrations.
- Support state and federal reporting requirements and provide requested documentation during regulatory reviews.
- Collaborate with facility leadership, corporate HR, payroll, and operations teams to resolve accounting discrepancies timely and accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial, payroll, employee, and organizational information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required .
- CPA designation preferred but not required .
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience required .
- Prior healthcare, skilled nursing, long-term care, or multi-site healthcare accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting audits, including external financial audits and 401(k)/5500 audits required .
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting and benefits reconciliation preferred.
- Experience with healthcare reimbursement, Medicaid/Medicare environments, or cost reporting is highly desirable.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required , including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting analysis.
- Experience with ERP, payroll, or HRIS systems such as ADP, PointClickCare , Great Plains, Sage, or similar platforms preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

- Multi-state accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in union healthcare environments preferred .
- Knowledge of healthcare labor reporting and payroll allocations.
- Experience working with large employee populations and multi-entity organizations.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement operational efficiencies.
Physical & Work Requirements
