Job summary

Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks a senior accounting leader to direct the institutional accounting program, overseeing staff development and the systematic use of automated information tools in the accounting process.

The role includes preparing annual financial statements for university administration and state/federal agencies, and guiding the evolution of the accounting system to meet institutional needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a major in accountancy (or equivalent course work).
• Three years (36 months) of accounting experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
• Three years (36 months) of additional years of experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series.
• An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs the accounting operation with full management responsibility and staff development.
• Maintains relationships with staff, administrators and the public while handling controversial problems tactfully.
• Provides administrative direction for automated information systems within the accounting process.
• Oversees preparation of annual reports and financial statements for university administration and agencies.
• Manages development and revision of the accounting system to meet university needs.
• Performs work related to the lower level in this series.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
