Job summary

Chess Wizards, Inc. in La Habra, CA is hiring enthusiastic chess instructors for after-school programs. You will lead engaging classes for elementary students, following a structured curriculum and promoting good sportsmanship.

Onboarding occurs in the summer with fall teaching; expect Thursday sessions from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm and 1–5 classes weekly, including travel between local schools with mileage reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar.
• Ability to lead a class independently and create interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain moves and basic tactics to kids.
• Reliable transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week and adhere to safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use our curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking through chess.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive prepared and ready to engage students.
