Job summary

Chess Wizards, based in Los Alamitos, CA, is seeking enthusiastic instructors for our after-school chess program. You will lead engaging classes, adapt to students’ needs, and travel between local school sites to deliver our curriculum.

Successful candidates start training this summer and teach during the fall. Competitive per-class pay, flexible scheduling, and mileage reimbursement are provided. Join a supportive team with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings.
• Ability to lead a class independently with engaging, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and the ability to explain moves clearly.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to school safety protocols and to supervising children.
• Strong punctuality and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
