Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System seeks a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee day-to-day lab operations and supervise subordinate staff. You will ensure quality service across shifts, maintain accreditation, and manage administrative tasks and budgets.

The role requires a science degree with 4 years in a clinical lab (or a Master’s with 2 years), NYS Technologist license, and ASCP preferred. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's degree in science with 4 years in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Alternatively, Master's degree in science with 2 years in a clinical laboratory setting.
• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by DOH/Office of Professions required.
• ASCP Certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of Laboratory employees to meet quality standards and deadlines.
• Evaluate and update laboratory procedures and methodologies.
• Provide quality control for test procedures and document results; implement corrective actions.
• Ensure specimen integrity from receipt through filing/archival; comply with accrediting and government standards.
• Resolve day-to-day operational problems related to systems, personnel and equipment performance.
• Prepare work schedules and assign priorities to staff; cover for shortages when needed.
• Guide staff on policies, procedures and quality measures; ensure compliance.
• Inform management of problems beyond own knowledge and expertise.
• Organize in-service meetings and continuing education seminars.
• Process departmental payroll submissions and staffing records.
• Maintain licensure and certifications for personnel and include in files.
• Manage inventory of supplies and advise on capital equipment acquisitions.
