Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and supervise subordinate personnel, data collection, and special projects.

The role requires a science degree with clinical lab experience and an NYS CLT license; ASCP certification is strongly preferred. You will ensure quality across shifts and support accreditation, budgeting, and staff development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science with 4 years of clinical lab experience or Master's degree with 2 years of clinical lab experience.
• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by DOH/Office of Professions required
• ASCP Certification strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Supervises the work and daily operations of Laboratory employees to ensure quality, deadlines, and procedures; evaluates and updates procedures.
• Provides quality control measures for test procedures; reviews results; documents results; implements corrective action when tolerance limits are exceeded.
• Ensures specimen integrity from receipt to filing; maintains compliance with accrediting and government agencies; resolves day-to-day operational problems.
• Prepares work schedules, assigns and prioritizes work to staff; ensures adequate coverage; reallocates duties during equipment failure or short staffing.
• Provides guidance to staff for complex problems and escalated disputes; recruits, interviews, and recommends hiring decisions; evaluates competency and performance.
• Advises staff on policies, procedures, and quality control measures; ensures ongoing compliance with standards and regulations.
• Informs management of problems beyond the scope of own knowledge; organizes in-service meetings and continuing education seminars.
• Reviews and submits departmental payroll; ensures licensure and certification records are maintained.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents; provides recommendations for capital equipment; supports space optimization.
• Performs miscellaneous related duties.
