Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Chicago to support lead engineers with project duties and standard design tasks. You will apply engineering techniques, update designs, and assist across market segments.

Ideal candidates pursue a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, with ABET accreditation preferred and strong communication, problem solving, and leadership skills. This internship offers hands-on experience and the chance to grow within the field.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Global Facilities

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission-critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.

• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.

• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

Compensation

$20.50-35.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
