Job summary

Corning seeks a Chemical Engineer II to support process safety, equipment readiness, and commissioning at the Hemlock, Michigan plant. This on-site role involves leading PHA/HAZOP activities, safeguarding processes, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

The position is a 6-month, full-time assignment with potential for extension, located in Hemlock, MI. On-site work with occasional travel may be required to support commissioning and startup activities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of chemical manufacturing or process engineering experience.
• Experience with HAZOP/PHA and process safety concepts.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to travel domestically; on-site plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support HAZOPs and PHAs to identify hazards and safeguards.
• Apply chemical engineering principles to design, scale-up, and optimize processes.
• Support hands-on work in lab, pilot, and manufacturing environments.
• Document technical work, update procedures, and P&IDs.
• Communicate updates and risk assessments through reports and briefings.
• Track progress against technical, safety, and project objectives.
• Collaborate with plant teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Use statistical methods to improve process understanding and control.
• Apply structured problem solving to resolve process upsets.
