Downstream Processing Operator, Augusta, Georgia, United States, Full-Time

Manus works across industries and value chains to accelerate the transition to BioAlternatives - better performing and more sustainable versions of complex molecules traditionally sourced from plants, animals, or fossil fuels. Our platform is proven to work across scales, bridging the Valley of Death between lab and manufacturing more efficiently and more reliably to deliver the benefits of synthetic biology today. We are seeking a highly motivated Downstream Processing Operator . This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s manufacturing and process development team located in Augusta, GA.

The Downstream Processing Operator is responsible for the continuing efficient operation of the fermentation plant and providing overtime support as needed for production. This includes maintenance, equipment reliability, and operations. Creativity and decision-making skills are required. Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with all personnel. Work as a member of the fermentation plant team which includes assisting in the Pilot Plant. Controls, monitors, and measures fermentation processes as instructed. Abides by all safely, environmental, and quality requirements. Perform minor maintenance and duties related to product testing, including sampling.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with production to provide resources to solve fermentation and product isolation problems.
  • Help evaluate fermentation experiments, including:
    • Prepare fermentation and downstream equipment according to SOPs, including equipment setup, media preparation, equipment disassembly, cleaning, etc.
    • Collect samples during manufacturing for analysis.
    • Prepare batch records, adapt to changing experimental designs, and communicate with process development experts.
    • Review batch records and analytical data, perform data trending, and organize final results.
    • Coordinate daily plant activities, including scheduling, maintenance, troubleshooting, and contamination control.
    • Prepare SOPs for new processes or operations as needed.
    • Support maintenance activities, including rebuilding probes, changing gearboxes, and modifying equipment.
    • Maintain equipment through work notifications and scheduled maintenance; use own tools for minor repairs.
    • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
    • Physical ability to inspect equipment, climb stairs/ladders, and wear protective gear.
    • Work schedule may vary depending on manufacturing needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of fermentation or related plant experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and support safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills and team orientation.
  • Flexibility in duties and adaptability to a start-up environment.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of fermentation and downstream processes, microbiology, and lab procedures.
  • Flexibility in job roles and assignments.
  • Basic PC skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office.
