Downstream Processing Operator, Augusta, Georgia, United States, Full-Time

We are seeking a highly motivated Downstream Processing Operator. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s manufacturing and process development team located in Augusta, GA.

The Downstream Processing Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the fermentation plant and providing overtime support as needed for production. This includes maintenance, equipment reliability, and operations. Creativity and decision-making skills are required. Must be able to maintain good working relationships with all personnel. Work as a member of the fermentation plant team, including assisting in the Pilot Plant. Controls, monitors, and measures fermentation processes as instructed. Abides by all safety, environmental, and quality requirements. Performs minor maintenance and duties related to product testing, including sampling.

Responsibilities:

• Interface with production to provide resources to solve fermentation and product isolation problems, and help evaluate fermentation experiments. This includes:
• Prepare fermentation and downstream equipment in accordance with SOPs, including equipment setup, media preparation, equipment disassembly, cleaning, etc.
• Collect samples during manufacturing for analytical analysis.
• Prepare batch records, reflect changing experimental designs, and communicate with process development experts about targeted parameters.
• Review batch records, convert data into Excel for trending, and organize final results for distribution.
• Coordinate daily plant activities, including scheduling conflicts, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimizing operations.
• Prepare SOPs for new processes or operations as needed.
• Support plant maintenance activities, including rebuilding probes, changing gearboxes, modifying equipment.
• Maintain equipment through work notifications and scheduling; use personal tools for minor repairs.
• Adhere to EH&S policies and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Physical demands include inspecting equipment, climbing stairs/ladders, and wearing protective gear.
• Work schedule varies depending on manufacturing needs and extraordinary conditions.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of fermentation or related plant operator experience.
• Ability to follow instructions and support safe work practices.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Flexibility with duties and adaptability to a start-up environment.
• High professional and ethical standards.
• Familiarity with fermentation, downstream processes, microbiology, and lab procedures.
• Flexibility in job rotations and assignments.
• Basic PC skills including Windows and Microsoft Office.
