Job summary

MSD in Rahway, NJ is seeking interns for the 2027 Summer Talent Program in the Chemical Engineering Research and Development CERD group. This 11–12 week internship will place you as a fully integrated team member, focusing on small molecule API process development using organic synthesis, with exposure to cross-modality programs and scale‑up activities.

You’ll work under technical mentors, document results in electronic notebooks, and present findings to the department.

Qualifications

• Experience performing lab-based research or pilot plant/shop-floor process development in chemical engineering.
• Strong technical/problem-solving skills with fundamentals in chemical engineering.
• Knowledge of organic chemistry and small molecule API synthesis unit operations (reaction, distillation, extraction, crystallization, filtration, drying).

Responsibilities

• Work on a chemical engineering research project under at least one technical mentor.
• Accurately record experimental setup and results in electronic notebooks.
• Present results to the entire CERD department.
