Job summary

Merck's Chemical Engineering Research & Development Department seeks highly motivated engineers to design, plan and execute experiments for small molecule and cross-modality API process development and scale-up. The role involves lab, kilo-lab and pilot plant work with occasional production activities in accordance with GMP and safety standards.

A high level of innovation, initiative, and strong communication skills are expected; travel is approximately 10-15% across sites as needed.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in chemical or biochemical engineering by June 2027.
• Experience performing lab-based research/process development in a chemical engineering-related area.
• Familiarity with unit operations used in pharmaceutical and fine chemical synthesis.
• Highly effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Good organizational, interpersonal, writing, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan and execute experiments related to API process development and scale-up.
• Perform batch processing and assist in production activities in pilot plant and lab settings.
• Troubleshoot and investigate technical issues and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with internal/external manufacturing sites and ensure GMP compliance.
