Job summary

Sodexo Ltd is recruiting a Chef de Partie for Kings College Taunton, a prestigious college on a rural campus near Taunton. You will join a friendly team of 12 across two sections, cooking fresh meals for around 1,000 meals per day.

You will prepare and cook high‑quality dishes, support the Head Chef, manage deliveries and stock with FIFO, maintain hygiene, and help with events. At least 1 year as Chef de Partie is essential; school/catering exp is advantageous.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience as a Chef de Partie or similar role is essential; school or contract catering is advantageous.
• Enhanced DBS check will be completed for this role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook high‑quality dishes, served at the correct temperature.
• Support the Head Chef with daily food prep and during busy service.
• Receive deliveries, store ingredients properly, and rotate stock (FIFO).
• Maintain hygiene and food safety in line with policies.
• Collaborate with the team to create a positive kitchen environment.
• Assist with school events and functions, including outside hours.
• Provide friendly service to students, staff and visitors.
• Follow portion control and promote cost‑effective catering.
• Contribute ideas to menu improvements and dining experiences.

Rate of Pay: £14.00 per hour

Working Pattern: 5 days out of 7 (46 working weeks)

Shift Pattern: 6:15am – 2:15pm and 11:45am – 7:45pm

Although this is in walking distance, public transport is available.

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team of 12, split across two teams, producing fresh, nutritious meals for a busy school community and serving approximately 1,000 meals per day.This is a fantastic opportunity for a Chef de Partie with strong high‑volume catering experience who thrives in a fast‑paced, rewarding environment.

What You'll Do:

• Prepare and cook high‑quality dishes, ensuring every meal is delivered to an excellent standard and served at the correct temperature.
• Support the Head Chef and wider team with daily food preparation, maintaining smooth service during busy, high‑volume periods.
• Receive and check deliveries, store ingredients correctly, and follow stock rotation procedures (including FIFO) to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
• Maintain exceptional hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety standards in line with company policies and legal requirements.
• Work collaboratively with your team to create a positive, supportive kitchen environment for both colleagues and the school community.
• Assist with school events, themed days, and special functions, which may occasionally fall outside normal working hours.
• Provide a friendly, professional, and approachable service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Follow portion control guidelines and support sustainable, cost‑effective catering practices.
• Contribute ideas for menu improvements, service enhancements, and ways to elevate the overall dining experience.

What You Bring:

• A passion for cooking and a positive, can‑do attitude within a professional kitchen environment.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with confidence managing your section during high‑volume service.
• The ability to work well under pressure while maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, food safety, and attention to detail.
• A proactive, reliable approach and willingness to learn, develop, and contribute creative ideas.
• At least 1 year of experience as a Chef de Partie or similar role is essential; experience in school or contract catering is advantageous.
• An Enhanced DBS check will be completed for this role.
