Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a dedicated RN nurse supervisor to oversee nursing care at the Bell County Juvenile Jail in Killeen, TX. The role provides clinical leadership and ensures adherence to unit objectives and administrative policies.

The position requires a nursing degree, an active RN license in Texas, and at least two years of professional nursing experience including leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Current, valid RN license recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.
• Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience, including leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Operations Oversight: Ensure compliance with clinical standards and maintain 100% shift coverage with appropriate staff.
• Staff Supervision and Development: Provide supervision and coaching to nursing staff; ensure annual performance evaluations.
• Quality and Compliance: Maintain audit scores and address deficiencies.
• Clinical Care and Documentation: Ensure timely responses and accurate documentation; support rapid emergency responses.
• Patient Care Coordination: Identify high-risk patients and escalate appropriately.
• Communication and Reporting: Submit incident reports and participate in leadership meetings.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Support operational needs and cross-coverage.

Position Description

Employees in this classification are responsible for providing andoverseeing nursing care at Bell County Juvenile Jail in Killeen,Texas. The position implements unit objectives and administrativepolicies and provides clinical leadership to nursing staff. Thisposition operates under the supervision of the SeniorDirector.ng.

Major/Essential Functions

• Clinical Operations Oversight: Ensures compliance withorganizational, state, and regulatory clinical standards. Maintains100% shift coverage with an appropriate staff skill mix and ensurestimely completion of patient care responsibilities each shift.
• Staff Supervision and Development: Provides effectivesupervision, coaching, and support to nursing staff. Ensures annualperformance evaluations are completed by established deadlines andthat coaching and corrective actions are appropriately documentedwhen performance concerns are identified.
• Quality and Compliance: Maintains a minimum audit scoreof 98% on applicable internal and external compliance reviews andpromptly addresses identified deficiencies.
• Clinical Care and Documentation: Ensures timely responseto sick-call requests and completion of required clinicaldocumentation. Supports an average emergency response time of twominutes from notification to arrival, when applicable.
• Patient Care Coordination: Identifies and appropriatelyescalates high-risk patients through established clinical andorganizational escalation channels.
• Communication and Reporting: Ensures incident reportsare submitted within established reporting timeframes and thatshift handoff reports are completed accurately and timely.Participates in required leadership, clinical, and operationalmeetings.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Demonstrates flexibility insupporting operational needs, including cross-coverage and specialassignments. Maintains performance standards consistent withprimary job responsibilities when performing additionalduties.

Occasional Duties

• Participates in special projects, quality improvementinitiatives, audits, training, and other operational activities asassigned.
• Provides cross-coverage for nursing operations as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned in support of facility andorganizational operations.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Possession of a current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) licenserecognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.
• Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience,including experience serving in a charge nurse, lead nurse, orcomparable nursing leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a correctional healthcare setting.
• Experience supervising nursing staff in a complex orhigh-acuity healthcare environment.
