Job summary

Mercy St. Louis is seeking a clinical billing auditor to verify the accuracy and completeness of patient charges and ensure pre-certification for surgical cases. The role requires collaboration with multiple departments to achieve compliant charge capture and efficient pre-authorization processes.

You will investigate surgical denials, identify discrepancies, and support improvements in the OR charge workflow, with emphasis on accuracy, compliance, and clear documentation.

Qualifications

• Must have clinical expertise or knowledge and experience in billing and/or coding in a clinical setting.
• Ability to identify supplies and/or other patient charges that are associated with specific procedures; knowledge of implant practices valuable.
• Understanding of the entire OR patient charge process; guidelines for determining if an item is chargeable; charge data entry/integrity process.
• Good written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to address complex problems with clear, concise writing.

Responsibilities

• Perform a clinical audit of the accuracy and completeness of patient charges.
• Ensure pre-certification has been completed for all surgical patients and collaborate with other departments to accomplish it.
• Investigate surgical case denials.
• Contribute to a team effort to optimize charge capture and billing integrity.
