Job description

Merritt Island, FL - relocation assistance provided

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Chief Financial Officer. The CFO will build and lead one high-performing finance function across two businesses with very different economic engines. The role exists to create financial truth, protect liquidity, improve operating decisions, and position both companies for profitable, disciplined growth.

This is not a traditional accounting-only CFO role. The successful executive will be equally credible on a construction work-in-progress review, a manufacturing cost discussion, a board presentation, and an investor diligence call. The CFO must preserve the distinct economics and governance of each company while giving the CEO and leadership team a clear consolidated view of cash, risk, performance, and capital allocation.

Responsibilities
  • Enterprise financial architecture. Establish a reliable, decision-ready financial operating system across both companies, with clear entity-level accountability, disciplined consolidation, and transparent intercompany economics.
  • Project and manufacturing economics. Strengthen job costing, cost-to-complete forecasting, work-in-progress discipline, revenue recognition, change-order economics, procurement visibility, plant cost accounting, and margin accountability from bid through closeout.
  • Cash, liquidity, and working capital. Own treasury and cash forecasting; improve billing, collections, inventory, payables, retainage, and contract cash profiles; and ensure that operating and capital decisions are grounded in liquidity and downside scenarios.
  • Capital strategy and investor readiness. Build an integrated operating and financing model, maintain the capitalization and diligence infrastructure, support fundraising strategy and execution, and deliver credible reporting to investors and the board without allowing financing narratives to outrun operating evidence.
  • Strategic planning and capital allocation. Translate strategy into annual plans, rolling forecasts, scenario models, return thresholds, and explicit investment choices across facilities, automation, technology, talent, and market expansion.
  • Controls, compliance, and risk. Ensure accurate GAAP reporting, timely closes, appropriate controls, tax and audit readiness, contract and insurance discipline, and proportionate governance that protects the companies without slowing responsible execution.
  • Finance organization and systems. Build the team, processes, data ownership, and systems architecture needed for scale. Clarify which capabilities should be shared, embedded, or specialized across the two companies.
  • Executive partnership. Serve as a candid thought partner to the CEO and leadership team; surface bad news early; challenge weak assumptions; and make tradeoffs among speed, profitability, cash, risk, and long-term enterprise value explicit.
Requirements
  • Progressive senior finance leadership culminating in CFO, divisional CFO, or equivalent enterprise responsibility in a complex operating business.
  • Deep command of project-based construction or engineered-to-order manufacturing economics, including job costing, backlog, WIP, revenue recognition, cost-to-complete forecasting, margin fade, change orders, working capital, and contract risk.
  • Direct experience supporting an investor-funded startup or similarly capital-intensive growth company, including long-range modeling, fundraising, investor and board reporting, capitalization, diligence, and scenario planning.
  • A record of improving cash generation and operating margin through better information, accountability, commercial discipline, and cross-functional action—not finance-only reporting.
  • Strong technical grounding in GAAP financial reporting, controllership, treasury, tax, audit, internal controls, FP&A, and enterprise risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and scale finance systems, close and forecast processes, management reporting, and a high-caliber finance organization.
  • Executive presence and communication skill sufficient to work effectively with operators, project teams, lenders, auditors, advisors, investors, and directors.
  • Sound judgment under uncertainty, with the ability to move quickly while preserving financial integrity and governance.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in advanced manufacturing, building products, specialty contracting, facades, or another project-intensive industrial business.
  • Experience with multi-entity structures, intercompany agreements, international operations, joint ventures, or geographically distributed production.
  • CPA or equivalent accounting qualification; an MBA or relevant advanced degree may be useful but is not a substitute for operating results.
  • Experience selecting or implementing ERP, project accounting, manufacturing costing, business intelligence, or planning platforms.
  • Experience with debt facilities, bonding or surety relationships, equipment or project financing, and institutional equity investors.
