Job summary

Lakeside Spears Animal Hospital in Carbondale, IL is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician for Urgent Care. This full-time role requires weekend hours and offers hourly compensation with 18-22 USD depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Certified Veterinary Technician with active license is required.
• 2+ years of professional experience preferred.
• ER or Urgent Care experience preferred.
• Consistent punctuality and reliability for scheduled shifts.

• Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
• Expertise in safe, low-stress animal restraint techniques.
• Proficiency with sample collection methods (blood, urine, fecal, skin).
• Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
• Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
• Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to hazards.

Certified Veterinary Technician - Urgent Care

• Full-time
• Compensation: USD 18 - USD 22 - hourly

This position is specific to our Urgent Care team! Weekend hours are a requirement for this position. Full-time and part-time positions available!

Our hours of operation are:

• Mon-Fri: 9 AM - 5 PM
• Fri, Sat, Sun (Urgent Care Only):12 PM noon - 12 AM midnight

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

We're Looking For:

• A Certified Veterinary Technician with an active license required, 2+ year professional experiencepreferred but not required
• Previous experience in ER or Urgent Care settings preferred but not required.

• Excellent client communication and medical record management skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations

Pay Range: $18/hr+ depending on level of experience
