Lakeside Spears Animal Hospital in Carbondale, IL, is seeking an Experienced Veterinary Assistant for Urgent Care. This full-time role offers weekend hours, competitive hourly pay, and a path for growth through hands-on and virtual training.

Daily duties include triage, diagnostic support, medications administration, and radiographs, with emphasis on safety, teamwork, and patient welfare. Prior ER/urgent care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years veterinary experience preferred, ideally in an ER/Urgen Care setting.
• Weekend availability is required.
• Exceptional customer service and precise communication are essential.
• Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
• Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress, safe manner.
• Ability to set up and process laboratory samples and tests.
• Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs.
• Self-starter with desire to advance knowledge and skills.
• Open to professional feedback to maintain hospital efficiency.

Experienced Veterinary Assistant - Urgent Care

• Full-time
• Compensation: USD 16 - USD 20 - hourly

Our highly-trained veterinarians and technicians have a passion for providing high-quality, compassionate care- and we are looking to add motivated and talented professionals to our team!

This position is specific to our Urgent Care team! Weekend hours are a requirement for this position. Full-time and part-time positions available!

Our hours of operation are:

• Mon-Fri: 9 AM - 5 PM
• Fri, Sat, Sun (Urgent Care Only):12 PM noon - 12 AM midnight

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, assisting with the diagnostic treatments, assisting with nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, assisting with administration of medications, effective communication within the team environment, and alignment of UPC core values.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

• A minimum of 2-years professional veterinary experience preferred, ideally in an ER or Urgent Care setting.

• Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency.

Pay Range: $16/hr+ depending on level of experience
