Lakeside Spears Animal Hospital in Carbondale, IL, seeks an Experienced Veterinary Assistant for our Urgent Care team. This full-time role requires weekend availability and offers hourly pay ranging from $16 to $20, with full-time and part-time positions possible.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years professional veterinary experience preferred
• Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
• Weekend availability required
• Ability to restrain pets in a calm and safe manner
• Knowledge of preventative care and hospital workflow

Responsibilities

• Pet restraint and triage of incoming patients
• Assist with diagnostic treatments and nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases
• Administer medications and support hospital procedures
• Communicate effectively within the team to maintain efficiency
• Assist with laboratory samples, tests, radiographs, and hospital documentation

This position is specific to our Urgent Care team! Weekend hours are a requirement for this position. Full-time and part-time positions available!

Our hours of operation are:

• Mon-Fri: 9 AM - 5 PM
• Fri, Sat, Sun (Urgent Care Only):12 PM noon - 12 AM midnight

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, assisting with the diagnostic treatments, assisting with nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, assisting with administration of medications, effective communication within the team environment, and alignment of UPC core values.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

We're Looking For:

• A minimum of 2-years professional veterinary experience preferred, ideally in an ER or Urgent Care setting.
• A high work ethic and positive attitude team member.
• Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work.
• Weekend availability is required.
• Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely.
• Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
• Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner.
• Ability to properly set-up and process laboratory samples and tests.
• Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs.
• A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset.
• Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency.

Pay Range: $16/hr+ depending on level of experience
