Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech to assist surgeons during operative procedures. You will ensure the operating suite is prepped, monitor instrument par levels, sterilize instruments, and participate in performance improvement activities.

The role serves adults and select pediatrics. Responsibilities include creating sterile fields, counts, instrument selection, anticipating surgeon needs, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist by an approved program.
• AHA BLS Certification.
• Minimum of 1 year of OR scrub tech experience.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages desirable.

Responsibilities

• Creates and maintains a sterile field, adheres to sterile technique.
• Performs sponge, sharp and instrument counts per policy.
• Selects instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments as required.
• Maintains proper instrument assembly and sterility.
• Communicates with physician and physician's assistant.
• Identifies/labels cultures and specimens accurately.
• Notifies RN Circulating Nurse or Charge Nurse with relevant information.
• Maintains instrument/equipment and reports malfunctions.
• Labels drugs/solutions and tracks usage.
• Assists with training of new surgical staff.
• Maintains appropriate records and participates in QA activities.
