Job summary

Tennova Medical Group – Greater Knoxville is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. You will prepare sterile fields, anticipate needs, and ensure correct handling of instruments and supplies to promote patient safety and efficient OR turnover.

The role requires CST or equivalent certification, BLS, and 0–2 years OR experience. You will work closely with RNs and surgeons to maintain strict aseptic technique and documentation.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences.
• 0–2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room with instruments, equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Maintains a sterile field and adheres to aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments accurately and efficiently.
• Handles instruments and equipment per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including cleaning and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation accuracy.
• Restocks supplies and cleans equipment, prepping rooms for subsequent cases.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with policies and standards.
