Job summary

Livingston Regional Hospital, part of ScionHealth, is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to assist in operating room procedures under RN supervision. The CST ensures a sterile environment, passes instruments to surgeons, and supports room turnover to maintain patient safety and efficiency.

Requirements include a CAAHEP-accredited program, CST credential, BLS, and 12–18 months OR experience. The role emphasizes infection control, meticulous counts, and teamwork in a community hospital

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential within facility policy timeframe.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• De-escalation training within facility policy timeframe.
• 12–18 months of acute care OR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room with sterile instruments, equipment, supplies and solutions for procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and sterile field throughout procedures.
• Pass instruments to surgeon and team during operations.
• Accurately track sponges, needles and instruments for counts.
• Assist with room turnover, waste disposal and equipment reprocessing.
• Operate sterilization equipment per standards (AAMI, AORN, TJC, OSHA).
• Assist in processing specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Document instrument counts and sterilization indicators.
• Comply with infection control, PPE and safety protocols.
• Support performance improvement and risk management initiatives.
• Maintain readiness and functionality of instruments and equipment.
