Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a qualified Surgical Technician – Certified to support the operating room team in delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

The role focuses on sterile field setup, instrument handling, and efficient OR operations in alignment with infection prevention standards. The position requires CST or PN program graduate with an associate degree option, and 0–2 years OR experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program (technical school)
• Associate degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences is required
• 0–2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room with instruments, equipment, and supplies based on procedure and physician preference card.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout the procedure following Universal Precautions, asepsis, and sterile technique.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments and supplies accurately during procedures.
• Handles instruments and equipment per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including inspection and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to support patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction to ensure safety and readiness.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation for accuracy.
• Restocks supplies, cleans and returns equipment, and readies rooms for subsequent cases to ensure OR efficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
