Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to join our operating room team in Indiana. The role collaborates with the surgical team to prepare the sterile field, pass instruments, and assist with patient positioning and safety throughout procedures.

The ideal candidate holds CST and BLS, with 0–2 years OR experience. This on-site position emphasizes infection control, instrument handling, and efficiency to support high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program required.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required.
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room with instruments, equipment and supplies based on procedure and physician preference.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout the procedure using universal precautions.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments and supplies efficiently.
• Handles instruments per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including inspection and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation.
• Restocks supplies and cleans and returns equipment between cases to ensure OR efficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to policies.
