Job summary

University of Utah Health is seeking a certified surgical technician to act as the primary scrub technician during procedures. You will handle instruments, supplies, and equipment, maintaining a sterile field and supporting multiple surgeons.

Responsibilities include instrument preparation, aseptic technique, and assisting with instrument counting, dressing preparation, and unit training. Travel or weekend shifts may be required based on location and department needs.

Qualifications

• Accredited OR Technician program or military scrub training.
• Two years of hands-on experience as a surgical technician.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential within 30 days of hire.
• Current TS-C or CST certification.

Responsibilities

• Check supplies and equipment for procedures and ensure proper operation.
• Open sterile supplies and set up the table for each procedure.
• Provide a sterile field and assist with draping the patient.
• Maintain sterile field and alert team to infractions.
• Anticipate and pass instruments to the surgeon.
• Follow perioperative count policy with the circulating nurse.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and wrap/dressings.
• Assist in specialty surgical services.
• Orient students and technicians to the unit.
• Assist in unit goals, quality improvement and cost containment.
• Arrange borrowing and lending of equipment.
