Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking a Surgical Technician – Certified to join the operating room team. The role focuses on maintaining a sterile field, anticipating needs of the surgical team, and ensuring safe handling of instruments to support high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include preparing the OR, instrument counts, patient positioning, and assisting with equipment and documentation to promote OR efficiency and safety.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required.
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room with instruments, equipment, and supplies as per procedure and physician preference.
• Maintains a sterile field, applying universal precautions and aseptic technique.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments and supplies accurately during procedures.
• Handles instruments and equipment per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including cleaning and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction to ensure safety.
• Maintains physician preference cards and procedural documentation for accuracy.
• Restocks supplies, cleans and returns equipment, and readies rooms for subsequent cases.
