Job summary

Effingham Health System is seeking a CST First Assistant to support surgeons during procedures, maintain sterile technique, and coordinate intraoperative care. The role involves patient positioning, tissue handling, and collaboration with nurses to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The position requires CSFA and CST certification, BLS-CPR, and at least two years in a hospital OR environment, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Education level equivalent to an Associate or vocational degree from an accredited Surgical Technologist/Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• Proficiency in technical skills during procedures, including clamping, cauterizing, suturing, and tissue handling.
• Certification as CSFA and CST and maintenance of BLS-CPR certification required.
• Two years of hospital experience, with one year in operating room as Surgical Technologist or First Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Acts as First Assistant and provides intraoperative skills during surgical procedures.
• Communicates surgeon preferences and patient needs to the team.
• Positions the patient for optimal exposure and access.
• Maintains sterile technique and ensures equipment is ready and functioning.
• Assists with postoperative care, dressings, and patient transfer.
• Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient care and room turnover.
