Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN is seeking a Certified Surgical Assistant to support surgeons in the operating room. This full-time, day-shift role offers a sign-on bonus of $12,000 and a chance to contribute to high‑stakes procedures in a busy OR setting.

The position requires BLS within 30 days of hire and a Certified First Surgical Assistant designation with NABSA/ABSA/NBCCSA recognition.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified First Surgical Assistant required prior to hire; eligible certifications include NBSTSA, ABSA, or NBCCSA.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon during procedures with tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioning.
• Own OR rhythm: customize suite for surgeon preferences and ensure sterile turnaround efficiency.
• Manage patient positioning and equipment to maximize surgical exposure while ensuring patient dignity and comfort.

• Elite Surgical Partnership: Serve as a seamless extension of the surgeonâs hands. During complex procedures, you will provide high-level assistanceâincluding tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioningâacting as a critical pillar of the intraoperative team.

• Operational Excellence: Own the rhythm of the OR. From customizing the suite to meet specific surgeon preferences to managing streamlined, sterile turnarounds, your precision ensures we are always ready for the next life-changing case.

• Precision Anatomy Access: Act as the guardian of patient safety and surgical visibility. Youâll masterfully manage patient positioning and stabilizing equipment to provide optimal surgical exposure while prioritizing the dignity and comfort of those in your care.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Hired/transferred before 5/30/21 not required to hold certification. Accepted: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; American Board of Surgical Assistants; or National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
