About Trenton Hospital

This Magnet-designated facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients and is one of four recipients of the Truven Health Advantage Award in the category of Health and Clinical Outcomes. It is home to nine university-affiliated residency programs. The hospital features a Level II trauma center with nationally recognized specialties in heart, vascular, and pulmonary care, as well as orthopedics, neurosurgery, and women's health.

Scope of Work

The Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon in approved surgical procedures and works under the direct supervision and at the request of the operating surgeon.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant Program required.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through NCCSA or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through NBSTSA within two years of completing the first assistant course required.
• At least 2 years of relevant surgical assisting experience required.
• Preferred certifications upon hire include CST (AST or ABSA) and CSFA (NBSTSA).
• Must obtain certification as a CSFA or CSA within 2 years if not already certified.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC required upon hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA preferred.
