Title: Certified Substitute

Location: Oakridge Junior/Senior High School – Oakridge Elementary School

Oakridge School District is seeking an energetic, positive, and resourceful full‑time certified substitute teacher to join Oakridge Junior/Senior High School and Oakridge Elementary School.

Job Summary

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, implement the daily instructional plans and provide meaningful instruction to the assigned classroom. Maintain a learning‑favorable environment, establish effective rapport with students, and collaborate with the building administrator and other teachers to minimize transition problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials and return them at the end of the day following sign‑out procedures.
Carry out the program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the students’ maturity and interests, ensuring fairness and respect.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives in the lesson plans.
Employ instructional methods and materials most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
Use positive verbal and non‑verbal skills that enhance learning.
Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
Takes attendance in accordance with district procedures.
State basic expectations for behavior at the beginning of class in accordance with school and district policies.
Ensure students are never left unattended in the classroom.
May perform duties usually required of an absent teacher such as lunchroom duty or hall monitoring.
Know emergency evacuation routes for assigned classrooms.
Take all necessary precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
Know procedures for referring students with disciplinary problems.
Know school procedures and regulations.
Perform other related duties as directed by the principal.

Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, meet deadlines, and follow the schedule.
Observe laws, district policies, procedures, and professional standards for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a valid Oregon State Teaching License or Oregon State Substitute Teacher License.
Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
Work independently with minimal direction while functioning as a team member.
Content knowledge in subject areas taught.
Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
Experience with differentiated instruction.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of state and federal education laws and student and staff rights.
Professionalism and effective human‑relations skills.
Ability to manage and supervise students and their work.

Physical Requirements

Frequent or prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
Possibly moderate to high noise levels.
Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations or meetings.
Accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception.
Handling and working with varied materials and objects.
Occasional lifting or carrying of objects weighing 15–25 pounds.
Possible exposure to bodily fluids from student injury or illness.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Working Conditions

Primarily performed indoors in school buildings; some outdoor instruction or supervision may be required.
Working in close proximity to groups of students and adults.
