Job summary

Aging True Senior Services is seeking a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) to support individuals in the Florida Self-Directed Care Program. The CRPS will provide peer support, advocate for participants, and share recovery experiences as appropriate.

The role emphasizes education, motivation, and connecting participants with community resources to enhance independence and recovery maintenance.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
• Reliable transportation to travel throughout the community.
• Demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing.
• Has completed a Florida DCF/Florida Certification Board certified recovery peer specialist training.
• Has passed the certification exam approved by the Florida Certification Board within 6 months of hire.
• Completes 10 hours of continuing education per year as outlined by the Florida Certification Board.
• Must follow the Florida Certification Board’s Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct.
• Belief in recovery for all persons served.
• Willingness to share personal recovery experience as relevant.
• Flexibility to engage people based on receptivity and needs.
• Ability to establish trusting relationships with peers and maintain boundaries.
• Ability to pass a Florida Level II background screening.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Provides Recovery Education covering each phase of the recovery journey.
• Provides hope and encouragement regarding involvement in community activities (work, school, relationships, etc).
• Models recovery for peers, staff and families by showing recovery is possible.
• Educates professional staff about recovery and reducing stigma.
• Coaches recovering people in independent use of community supports.
• Assists peers to assess strengths and abilities and set goals.
• Assists recovering persons with LAP planning and implementation.
• Identifies personal interests and goals in relation to recovery and life in the community.
• Supports connections with family and mutual self-help groups.
• Promotes self-advocacy by helping voices be heard and needs understood.
